Husk

Husk - contractions of expanding time

We will not remember our birth, we will not be able to tell the story of our death. Childbirth is a similarly elemental liminal situation - beyond real space and time, an extraordinary experience.
In its new production, the Tünet Ensemble attempts to evoke the experience of childbirth, to dissect it and show it in body, word and image.
The four dancers in the performance work from their own birth stories and body memories, traumatic and euphoric experiences. They try to turn out all that happened through closed eyes, skin, the unconscious.
"Consciousness escapes out the birth room door. The eyes close. The baby dictates. The mother crawls, stands up, climbs stairs, sleeps, lies on her side, on her back, kneels, clings. She expands and contracts. She pulsates. She sweats. A hitherto unknown rubber material has been invented: it expands indefinitely and further, just to the point that is the closest moment to death. At the gate of the unknown, it turns back. The sphinxes beckon. And still only hair. The fabric tears. First the head. Pause. Pauses and shifts: the rhythms of time gone. Ninety degrees of turn. The shoulder dislocates. And the rasp slips out."

Nota bene: One of the dancers got pregnant again during rehearsals.
