Beneath the festival grounds lie the hidden remains of the Roman Governor's Palace of Aquincum (Hadrian's Palace)- one of Budapest's most significant archaeological sites. Although this remarkable heritage has shaped the island's history for nearly two millennia, today it remains almost entirely invisible beneath the landscape. MEMINI was conceived to reconnect visitors with these concealed historical layers, not through reconstruction, but through atmosphere, spatial experience and collective memory.

Inspired by the spatial organization and bathing culture of the ancient palace, the installation reinterprets the site's architectural heritage within the temporary urban fabric of the festival. During the day, the pavilion functions as a shaded microclimatic retreat, where a high-pressure misting system provides evaporative cooling and a comfortable place to rest. At night, the same structure transforms into an immersive audiovisual environment through projection, light and sound, offering a calm, contemplative counterpoint to the intensity of the surrounding festival.

Located within the festival's night-time district, 400 m² MEMINI is accessible throughout the day and night. Suspended hammock-like resting areas, filtered light, cooling mist and evening projections create an environment designed for relaxation, regeneration and shared experience. Rather than recreating the Roman palace itself, the installation evokes its atmosphere and spatial memory, allowing visitors to experience the island's hidden history in a contemporary architectural setting.

The installation was realized with the support of Peroni Nastro Azzurro. While several functional and visual aspects were refined to accommodate the collaboration and the operational requirements of the festival, the original architectural concept and research-driven narrative remained unchanged.
