Design meets music: Presentation and studio concert at Budapest Design Week's Open Studios
October 11, 2023, 18:00 – Presentation by Medence Csoport
October 11, 2023, 19:15 – Concert by Váczi Dániel Glissonic Trió
Starting at 6:00 PM, Medence Csoport will give a 3 x 15-minute presentation on its new organizational structure. This is prompted by the creative community's transition at the end of 2022 to operating as an umbrella brand with three sub-brands, each led by one of the three founding designers: Gergő Magyar, András Gross, and Tóbiás Terebessy.
Three faces, three characters, three directions.
Medence Re+concept - Established in 2006, this popular brand of eco-conscious bags and accessories, made from recycled banners and other leftover materials, now includes workshops and a creative studio, led by Gergő
Medence DesignLab - The most exciting side of the Medence Csoport creative community, established in 2000. This division deals with fresh design solutions, interactive exhibitions, object design and implementation. Among other projects, it is responsible for the Creative Sound Space exhibition developed for the House of Hungarian Music, led by András Gross and Tóbiás – A 2000-ben alakult Medence Csoport kreatív alkotóközösség legizgalmasabb oldala, friss designmegoldásokkal, interaktív kiállítás- és tárgytervezéssel, kivitelezéssel foglalkozó részlege, többek között a Magyar Zene Háza részére fejlesztett Kreatív Hangtér kiállítást is ezen az albranden belül jegyzi Gross András és Terebessy Tóbiás.
Medence instruments – This sub-brand collects the sound-generating projects of Tóbiás Terebessy. Its flagship is the Glissonic family of instruments, co-created with multi-instrumentalist Dániel Váczi, which won the main prize of the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition in 2022.
Váczi Dániel Glissonic Trió Studio Concert
The repertoire revolves around the glissotar, co-created by Váczi and Terebessy. Dániel Váczi is one of the most exciting and versatile creators in the Hungarian music scene. He is the inventor of instrument families (Glissonic) and logic games (Urobo). As a composer, he explores and pushes the boundaries of jazz, classical, and contemporary music in his works. He composes for various ensembles and plays several instruments. As an expert in music theory, he invented a new musical system, the "reticular" or grid-like system, in which pitch is related to the temporal position of the sound; this is a kind of space-time in music. With his ensembles, he uses the tools of contemporary classical music and modern jazz to explore the unity of fixed compositions and free improvisations.
Join him and gain a glimpse into the future of music while listening to the sounds of a new generation of instruments.
